Description: Stunning Renaissance Revival walnut Victorian two part hall
mirror made by Henry J. Nelson, Burlington, VT. The marble and top of base are
signed. This piece has a large original mirror with protruding open carved
top crest. The arched top features etched carvings of twigs with leaves.
There are applied carvings on the top and bottom of the sides with etched
carvings in the middle of the sides and base. A drip stain is on the bottom
left side of the mirror frame. The serpentine front base has serpentine
legs and lovely open carved skirt with a bold fruit carving in the middle.
Original gorgeous gilt decoration highlights the various moldings and fills
the incised carvings. The gilt provides a rich contrast with the warm
original patina of the walnut. This would be a magnificent piece in a
hallway or at one end of a dining or living room!
